It has been an arduous recovery process for Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Andrew Luck making his way back from his surgically-repaired shoulder that has taken well over a year.

However, he has made some promising progress in the last few months that has led to him being on track to being on the field to start the season along with preseason action. According to Peter King of NBC Sports, Luck has voiced to him that he's nervous for the first time back on the field in well over a year.

This week, it’s practice Sunday, today and Tuesday; off Wednesday; and about a quarter of play Thursday night when the Colts open the preseason at Seattle. “Nervous? I’ll be very nervous,” he told me.

This is another major step forward for Luck to showcase where he's at in his recovery as he has been able to throw the ball around for the last couple of weeks. He has been able to knock off much of the rust and get used to being back on the field against live action for the first time since the 2016 campaign.

The 28-year-old will be on the field for limited action on Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks where he will be going up against a formidable defense. This is likely just a gauge to determine how much work he can handle and how his shoulder will react to the throws being made and the possible hits he will take. The manner in which his body responds in the days that follow will be a huge factor in assessing where he's at physically at this point in his recovery.

More importantly, it's another indicator that Luck will be back in the fold to start the 2018 campaign to help lead the Colts back to relevancy in the league by competing for a playoff spot with eyes toward snapping a three-year playoff drought.
