The Indianapolis Colts received some bad news today; their 2016 first-round pick center Ryan Kelly will undergo foot surgery and is expected to miss the start of the season, as reported by Andrew Walker of Colts.com.

This is terrible news for the Colts, who already have a shaky offensive line to begin with. They now lose their center for an extended period of time. It's been reported that Kelly could start the year on the PUP list with designation to return. With this designation, Kelly will not be able to play until Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Kelly hurt his foot during a joint practice with the Detroit Lions a week ago and was held out of the preseason game against the Lions. Coach Chuck Pagano originally thought it was a minor injury and it would only take a couple weeks to heal.

With Kelly out, Indy will likely lean on rookie Deyshawn Bond to play the position. He has looked okay in training camp, but it's hard to tell whether he is in the clear lead for the position. He will be in heavy competition with second year center Redmond Adams. There is three more preseason games remaining to leave an impression on the coaching staff.

It is yet to be determined how long Kelly will actually be out with the foot injury after undergoing surgery, but either way, it is safe to say he will be a Week 1 scratch against the Dallas Cowboys.
