What was viewed as a season filled with hope ended up with a whimper once again for the Indianapolis Colts. The team failed to advance to the NFL Playoffs after suffering a monumental collapse against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18.
The embarrassing loss cost the Colts a ticket to the AFC Wild Card game, and without a first round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, it will be a long summer of discontent and ruing the what-ifs for Carson Wentz and company.
But as early as now, it seems the Colts are ready to move on. None other than team owner Jim Irsay assumed responsibility for the squad's forgettable exit, releasing a statement on the Colts' Twitter on Wednesday. But he also made it known that he will make sure the Colts bounce back next season.
“The buck stops with me, and this experience makes me even more determined to bring Indiana a contending team. We are already working toward the future, and I'm going to do whatever it takes to put us in position to win next year and for years to come.”
It's worth noting that Irsay also described the Colts' loss to the Jaguars as ending the season in the “worst way possible.” So, despite his positive outlook, it's clear he wasn't too happy about it as well. But having your boss embrace accountability is definitely a huge plus for the Colts.
