The playoff hopes of the Indianapolis Colts are hanging on by a thread. At 6-6, they are in third place in the AFC South and sitting behind the Pittsburgh Steelers for the final Wild Card spot.

Room for error is at an all-time low.

There is some good news though. They might be getting back one of their star players just in time to make this final playoff push.

Running back Marlon Mack has missed the last two games due to injury. However, according to Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com, he returned to practice on Wednesday.

Mack has been an absolute star in 2019. The running back has 862 yards and four touchdowns on 192 carries (4.5 yards per carry). He also has 12 receptions for another 76 yards.

There is an argument to be made that Mack has been the most important playmaker on the offense for Indianapolis. Yes, Jacoby Brissett has been great and T.Y. Hilton is still a monster at receiver.

The true emergence of Mack has taken a lot of pressure off of everyone involved in the offense though. Therefore, it's really not a surprise that the Colts have lost the only two games that Mack was not available for.

When Mack is playing, the team is 6-4. However, Indianapolis is 0-2 without him. That right there shows just how important he has been in 2019.

Even with Mack back, the Colts are facing an uphill battle. There are only four games left in the season and they are on the outside looking in to the playoffs. It's going to take everything they have (and maybe a little luck) to find their way into the postseason this year.

Having Mack return is a big first step in the right direction though.
