Philip Rivers is set to hit the open free agency market this offseason and reports have come out that the Los Angeles Chargers have already moved on from him. That means that other teams will have a chance to swoop in and pick him up to be their new starter. One of those teams could end up being the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts have been rumored to be a potential landing spot for Rivers over the past few weeks. Since the 2019 season ended, the Colts have done everything but give Jacoby Brissett a vote of confident. They have made it fairly clear that they will be searching for an upgrade if they can find one.

Now, Pro Football Focus has predicted that Rivers will end up signing with the Colts when everything is said and done.

Bringing in Rivers would make some sense for the Colts, although not completely. They are looking to compete now and Rivers is more than capable of putting up big numbers and would be an upgrade over Brissett. However, Rivers is 38 years old and would not be a legitimate long-term franchise quarterback in Indianapolis.

Depending on the price tag, Chris Ballard could show interest. Indianapolis would likely back up the signing of Rivers by drafting a young quarterback. Many have linked them to Utah State prospect Jordan Love with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

In 2019 with the Chargers, Rivers had a down season. He completed 66 percent of his passes for 4,615 yards and 23 touchdowns, but his 20 interceptions were a disappointment.

It will be interesting to see which direction the Colts go this offseason at the quarterback position. Rivers could be an option and would make them a legitimate threat in the AFC for the next couple of years.
