The Indianapolis Colts are fairly deep at the running back position. This should come in handy, because Spencer Ware won't play in 2019.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, running back Spencer Ware was placed on the reserve PUP list — not as a temporary designation, but to indicate that his season is over before it had a chance to get off the ground.

Ware joined the Colts this offseason to compete for a job on the roster.

To begin training camp, Ware was placed on the active PUP list with an undisclosed injury. Now, we know the injury is more serious than first thought with the team moving him to the reserve PUP list.

By moving him to the reserve PUP list, that means Ware will be ineligible to practice or play for the first six weeks of the season. According to Rapoport, he will miss the entire season. Rapoport could also be confusing the reserve PUP list with injured reserve.

Nonetheless, the Colts will begin the season with Marlon Mack leading the way. Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins will follow him. If Ware was to make the roster he'd probably get the most of his reps on special teams.

Before coming to Indianapolis, Ware played the past three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs after beginning his career with the Seattle Seahawks. Injuries have plagued Ware in his career—he missed the entire 2017 season with a torn PCL.

At least for the Colts, they have depth at the running back position. Despite that, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Colts bring a running back from free agency to the roster.
