Amidst an offseason full of controversy off the field for the Washington Commanders, they went about their business to lock up their best on-field receiving threat in Terry McLaurin.
McLaurin spoke at length at the press conference about his personal goals, what he hopes to build with the team, and particularly his relationship with Carson Wentz – one he's trying to work on now and hopes to foster going forward.
“Having that relationship with Carson, I really wanna develop and make it strong as possible so he knows he can trust not only me as a player but as a person and I got his back. I know he's been through a lot in his career … I'm a guy who's going to have your back, man.”
It wasn't just lip service for Terry McLaurin, either. The Commanders wideout revealed that right after the press conference he was already planning to link up with his quarterback, plane seat already in tow.
Washington hasn't had a winning season since 2016 and haven't gotten beyond the Wild Card round since 2005. McLaurin knows that team success is vital to achieve any individual success and vocalized that in his presser:
“I wanna get to the playoffs and have a chance to win a Super Bowl. Personally, I wanna continue to be and try to be one of the top receivers in this league. I don't really go into the season thinking I need to have 1500 yards, this, this, and this. I think truly you have most success individually when you have the most success as a team.”
The Washington Commanders are going to try to make some serious noise on the field this season. A big season from Terry McLaurin – one as big as his new contract – is a must for that to happen.
