Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott did not show up to the first day of training camp on Friday. He is searching for a new contract.

That did not come as much of a surprise, as it has been public knowledge for quite some time that Elliott is looking for a new deal, and while Jerry Jones has essentially brushed off Elliott's absence as not that big of a deal, there doesn't seem to be much else to report on the situation.

According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, it has been “eerily quiet” on the Elliott front, adding that “no one is answering any of my texts” about what is going on.

While it is clear that Elliott wants a new deal, it's not clear exactly what has transpired. Obviously, as training camp moves forward, we'll probably learn more about the circumstances.

Elliott is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he led the league with 1,434 rushing yards while punching in six touchdowns and averaging 4.7 yards per carry. In addition, he hauled in 77 receptions for 567 yards and three scores en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by the Cowboys with the fourth overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He racked up 1,631 rushing yards to pace the NFL during his rookie year, also tallying 15 touchdowns on the ground, making the Pro Bowl and earning a First-Team All-Pro selection as a result.

Elliott then played in just 10 games in 2017 due to a six-game suspension.
