The Dallas Cowboys' quarterbacking situation continues to take numerous twists and turns.

Veteran backup Andy Dalton missed Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a concussion, resulting in a start for 2020 seventh-round pick Ben DiNucci.

It turns out DiNucci will get another start this weekend, as Dalton will miss his second consecutive game. This absence, however, is not the result of injury-related reasons, per ESPN's Todd Archer:

The Dallas Cowboys will be without quarterback Andy Dalton for a second straight game but not because of the concussion he sustained two weeks ago. Dalton will be placed on the reserve/COVID 19 list on Tuesday, which will knock him out of Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to multiple sources.

DiNucci's first start was a rather rude awakening for the Cowboys rookie.

The 23-year-old completed just 21 of 40 passes for 180 yards and lost a pair of fumbles, one of which came on a strip-sack when the Cowboys were in field goal range. He was also sacked four times for 48 yards.

Of course, the Eagles have one of the better front seven units in the NFL. DiNucci was always going to be under pressure, particularly given he was also pressed into starting duty on short notice.

But things will only get more difficult this weekend against the undefeated Steelers.

Pittsburgh has arguably the best defense in all of football. The Steelers lead the NFL with 30 sacks, and have terrorized opposing quarterbacks all season. They also make plenty of plays in the secondary.

DiNucci will have his hands full as he attempts to keep the Cowboys on pace in the NFC East race.
