The Dallas Cowboys came into the 2022 NFL Playoffs with high expectations, but instead they laid an egg in a putrid performance against the San Francisco 49ers. While the Cowboys still had a chance to win at the end, much of that was due to the 49ers trying to give the game away. Dallas racked up 14 penalties and executed poorly for much of the game, trailing 23-7 at one point before before the last-ditch comeback attempt fell short.

Cowboys legend Michael Irvin was certainly not impressed by what he saw in that game. Irvin went on the Stacking The Box podcast and ripped into Dallas' star players, including Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and CeeDee Lamb:

Prescott had an extremely mediocre game, completing just 23-of-43 passes for 254 yards. He threw one touchdown and one interception to wind up with a quarterback rating of 69.3. The Cowboys quarterback did have 27 rushing yards and a score, but that kind of passing day just didn't get the job done. Dallas has much higher standards for its expensive quarterback.

Meanwhile, Elliott had just 12 rushes for 31 yards and one catch for zero yards. It's true that Elliott had been playing on a torn PCL for a while, but that production is still substandard.

Lamb catching just one pass for 21 yards on five targets was probably the biggest shocker. Another Cowboys legend in Troy Aikman recently went off on the Cowboys for not getting Lamb involved enough in the offense, and that's an obviously fair critique given his quiet game.

All in all, Dallas deserves all the criticism being lobbed its way after this playoff dud. For all the talent on the roster, losing at home to a mediocre 49ers team playing with a hurting quarterback is a rough way to go out.
