The Dallas Cowboys made an interesting decision earlier in this NFL offseason to part ways with longtime wide receiver Dez Bryant. The team simply wanted to move on as they were unwilling to pay $12.5 million to an aging wideout that could be on the downside of his career.
Although Bryant was thought to be a hot commodity on the open market, the former All-Pro hasn't exactly had a lot of teams clamoring for his services. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott recently was asked about where he thinks his former teammate should sign and named a fellow NFC heavyweight in the New Orleans Saints.
“Somewhere with a veteran quarterback, a good scheme,” Prescott told USA Today. “Maybe New Orleans. I mean that's just throwing something out there. I mean that's just a place I could see him. Hopefully not in our division.”
Article Continues BelowThe Saints is an interesting choice by Prescott as Drew Brees and company came one play away from the NFC Championship Game last year. New Orleans fell short due to the “Minneapolis Miracle” by the Minnesota Vikings when it seemed as though the Saints had clinched the win. Bryant would give Brees another viable target in the passing game making an already potent offense that much more dangerous to opponents.
The Baltimore Ravens were the team that seemed ready to sign Bryant, but he rejected their offer and remains unsigned with July approaching. It seems highly unlikely that a player of Bryant's caliber will go without a team heading into the 2018 NFL season.
However, there's clearly not much demand for his services at the moment, and it may take a change in his asking price to find a new home in the NFL even if it is only for one season.
