The Dallas Cowboys are still in the midst of trying to hammer out a long-term deal with Dak Prescott this offseason. It seems he could be poised to become one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

According to ESPN's Todd Archer, Dallas is prepared to make Prescott the second-highest paid quarterback in the league behind Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson:

“The Cowboys have an offer that, according to sources, would make Prescott the second-highest-paid NFL quarterback in terms of average per year. That figure would fall behind Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who makes $35 million a season and received guaranteed money that is on par with Jared Goff's $110 million guarantee from the Los Angeles Rams.”

Recent reports indicate that Prescott's camp turned down a five-year, $175 million offer from Dallas in an effort to secure a $45 million salary in the final year. However, there have since been conflicting reports that such scenarios were never discussed.

Wilson was able to secure a four-year, $140 million to become the highest-paid quarterback that pays him $35 million per year. Meanwhile, two of Prescott's fellow members of the 2016 NFL Draft already got their payday after Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff signed a $134 million deal that included $110 million guaranteed, while Wentz received a $128 million contract with $108 million guaranteed.

Prescott is clearly using these deals as the benchmark for his new contract with the Cowboys. After all, he had shut down the Cowboys $33 million per year offer that included more than $90 million guaranteed and opted to play out the 2019 campaign season on his $2 million salary instead. It will be interesting to see if the patient approach ultimately pays off.
