The Dallas Cowboys have drawn a lot of criticism over not extending their young, talented players. Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons, and CeeDee Lamb are all due contract extensions and none of them seem imminent. This has not gone unnoticed by Stephen A. Smith.

On a recent episode of First Take, Stephen A spoke on the Cowboys contract situation. He believes that Dak Prescott is the lowest priority of the three players.

“Dak Prescott, $60 million, that’s my last priority, he is the last priority on the list,” Smith said. “I want that man to come to the negotiating table sticking out his chest, acting like this is what he deserves. Well DeMarcus says this, and I’m this and I’m that. Yeah until January rolls around, I’m looking at you with eight full years as my quarterback and I got two playoff victories to show for it, two, okay.”

Stephen A. went on to explain that a $60 million per year price tag would simply be too expensive for Prescott.

“He has never been to a Super Bowl, that brother is going to come to me demanding $60 million,” Smith said. “I mean please, I would give anything to be in Jerry Jones chair on that negotiation, you got to be crazy please, he’s the last priority. Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb should be taken care of before Dak.”

The Cowboys have to figure out some way to extend all three stars in CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, and Dak Prescott.

The outcome of the 2024 NFL season could impact the Cowboys' decisions in all of these contract negotiations. Head coach Mike McCarthy is also on the hot seat, which could signal significant changes coming to Dallas if the season goes poorly.

CeeDee Lamb's contract situation may be coming to a head. The superstar receiver is reportedly skipping Cowboys mandatory minicamp in a holdout. Lamb clearly wants a contract extension.

Head coach Mike McCarthy has confirmed that Lamb is not present at mandatory minicamp. McCarthy said that Lamb has “been engaged” with the team and is making a “business decision.” McCarthy added that he has no issues with how his team's veterans prepare in the offseason.

Lamb is set to play on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, valued at $17.99 million fully guaranteed.

Any potential Lamb extension would be incredibly expensive. The NFL's wide receiver market is constantly set by the next star receiver who wants a new deal. Lamb is one of the league's best and can realistically ask for whatever he wants.

Justin Jefferson's recent contract extension could provide a blueprint for Lamb. Jefferson signed a four-year, $140 million extension with a ton of guaranteed money. Lamb is a similar caliber of player, so it is only reasonable that he would demand a commensurate contract.

The longer the Cowboys wait, the more expensive Lamb becomes.

Dallas would be best served dealing with Lamb's contract situation, one way or the other, before the start of the regular season. Otherwise, they will have a distraction on their hands during a pivotal 2024 season.
