Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys are coming off a season in which they unseated the Philadelphia Eagles and won the NFC East title. They went into the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the NFC, and the thought was that they would have an epic confrontation with the San Francisco 49ers for the right to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

The only things the Cowboys would have needed to do to make that happen was defeat the Green Bay Packers at home in the Wild Card round and then defeat another opponent in the divisional playoffs.

Green Bay was able to earn a spot in the playoffs by winning their final three games of the season to finish with a 9-8 record that was good enough to get them the final Wild Card spot.

The Cowboys were expected to dispose of the Packers rather easily, but Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love would not let that happen. He was superb in his battle with Prescott and the Packers registered a monumental 48-32 upset. The only reason the final score was reasonably close was the late rally the Cowboys managed after the outcome had already been decided.

It seemed certain that head coach Mike McCarthy would be fired after the humiliating loss, and Prescott's future seemed to be in doubt as well. However, owner Jerry Jones decided to come back with his head coach and quarterback in the 2024 season.

Prescott is in the last year of his four-year, $160 million contract, and insiders are reporting that it is not going to be his final season with the Cowboys. An ESPN report indicated that the Cowboys want to work a new deal with the 30-year-old quarterback and that the team does not want him to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals is the highest paid player in the NFL with an average annual salary of $55 million. Prescott is merely the 13th-highest paid quarterback heading into the 2024 season.

Prescott has been lauded for his leadership ability and regular-season play since his rookie season in 2016, and he has led the Cowboys to a 73-41-0 record since becoming the team's QB1. The Cowboys have had four seasons with 10 or more wins since Prescott has been the starter. He led the team to a 13-3 record as a rookie and the Cowboys had a 12-5 mark last year.

However, he has not been as successful in the postseason. The Cowboys are just 2-5 in playoff games with Prescott under center.

Prescott has had some excellent numbers for Cowboys throughout his career

Prescott has earned Pro Bowl honors three times in his career.

He has been very consistent with his accuracy throughout his career, completing 67.0 percent of his career passes, and that figure has never been less than 62.9 percent.

He has thrown for 29,459 yards and compiled a 202-74 touchdown to interception ratio during his eight-year run with the Cowboys.

Dak Prescott had his best season last year as he completed a career-high and league-leading 410 passes in 590 attempts for 4,516 yards with 36 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
