Forbes has named the Dallas Cowboys the most valuable team in the NFL for the 12th consecutive year. America's team has established itself as a financial force to be reckoned with over the course of the last decade.

According to Darren Rovell of ESPN, the Cowboys are worth an astounding $5 billion. The New England Patriots ($3.8 billion), New York Giants ($3.3 billion), Los Angeles Rams ($3.2 billion) and the Washington Redskins ($3.2 billion) round out the top five most valuable NFL franchises.

The Cowboys are worth nearly twice as much as the NFL league average of $2.7 billion. Cowboys owner bought the team back in 1989 for $63 million. It is now worth nearly 80 times as much as it was the day he bought it. Forbes releases this lost annually, and the Cowboys have held the No. 1 spot for all professional sports franchises for the past three years. The second most valuable team on the list this year was Manchester United.

Despite their popularity, the Cowboys haven't been very successful in recent years. The team has won five Super Bowls in its history, but the last was over two decades ago. The team had not won a game in the postseason since their 24-20 victory over the Detroit Lions in the Wild Card Round back in 2014.

Nevertheless, the Cowboys have remained relevant over the years, building their empire with each passing season. The speed of their ascendence may be slowing down, but the Cowboys will continue to rise in the coming years. They'll probably be at the top for a while.
