The Dallas Cowboys have placed both defensive lineman DeMarcus Lawrence and cornerback Byron Jones on the physically unable to perform list, according to David Moore of The Dallas Morning News.

The Cowboys are optimistic that both players will be available for Week 1.

Lawrence, who signed a massive five-year, $105 million contract extension with Dallas earlier this offseason, underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in April. Meanwhile, Jones underwent hip surgery in March.

Both players are still recovering, and it's unlikely that either Lawrence or Jones will take part in any of the Cowboys' practices at training camp.

The good news is that both players seem to be on track as far as their rehabilitation goes, and the expectation is that they will both be just fine when Dallas plays host to the New York Giants in the season opener on Sept. 8.

Lawrence is coming off of a spectacular 2018 campaign in which he played all 16 games and racked up 64 tackles, 10.5 sacks, an interception, a couple of forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery en route to his second straight Pro Bowl appearance.

Meanwhile, Jones also appeared in all 16 contests, finishing with 67 tackles, and 14 passes defended, making his first Pro Bowl as a result.

The Cowboys won 10 games and captured the NFC East division title this past year and then went on to defeat the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, marking just their third playoff win since 1997. They then proceeded to fall to the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round the following week.
