After watching Randy Gregory take his talents to the Denver Broncos, the Dallas Cowboys made a low-risk, high-reward move by signing pass rusher Dante Fowler Jr. to a one-year deal.

Fowler featured in two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before team general manager Terry Fontenot elected to release him in February. The veteran defensive end capped off his run in Atlanta with 7.5 sacks recorded in 28 total games played.

Overall, Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence sees that Fowler can emerge as a contributor for the team in the upcoming 2022 season.

“I know DQ [defensive coordinator Dan Quinn] coached him back in Atlanta a couple years ago,” Lawrence said during a conference call on Thursday. “I know that he's coming in here to help us win. He's coming to get better, that's all I can ask from a guy.”

Inconsistent play has been a theme of Fowler’s career so far in the NFL. Before his roller-coaster run with the Falcons, he took part in two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, which included recording a standout 11.5 sacks in 16 regular season games played over the 2019 campaign.

The Cowboys may not call upon Fowler to mirror Gregory’s production while with the team, but if he can exert a keen presence at the line of scrimmage, it could go a long way for the reigning NFC East champions this upcoming season.
