The Dallas Cowboys secured an impressive 40-7 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon that came as much of a surprise given the dominance that they displayed in the contest.
Following the contest, Cowboys Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence decided to clown the effectiveness of Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles, according to Mac Engel of The Star-Telegram.
Was Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles a challenge for Tank and his teammates?
“Why you say that?” Tank asked me.
Because I want to know if Blake Bortles was a challenge for Tank and his teammates.
“I mean, (expletive deleted), the score was 40-7,” Lawrence said. “I played limited snaps. What challenge?
“I had 25 snaps. The score was 40-7. What are we talking about here?”
Although Lawrence had limited impact on the game with just one tackle, it was a clear one-sided play for the Cowboys that limited Bortles to complete just 15-of-26 completed passes for 149 yards with a touchdown and interception, a 29.6 quarterback rating, and was sacked three times. The Jaguars were only able to muster out just one scoring drive in the third quarter, but aside from that, they put up just 204 total offensive yards, 10 first downs, 4.3 yards per play, and two turnovers.
The Jaguars were also vastly dominated in time of possession with the Cowboys holding a nearly 39 minutes to 21 minutes edge in the contest. Dallas was able to dictate the flow of the game with much ease that saw them limit the effectiveness of Jacksonville's stout defense by effectively running the ball for 206 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. This saw star running back Ezekiel Elliott and quarterback Dak Prescott combine for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
It was simply a dominating performance that showed the type of flaws that Bortles has seemingly developed over the last couple of years that has limited their offensive production. Beyond that, it was a much-needed win for the Cowboys that has put them in the thick of the NFC East division race.
