The Dallas Cowboys dealt star wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that the team could “better spend” that “allocation.” However, there were other goings-on behind the scenes, such as Cooper's unvaccinated status and his positive COVID test, or his complaints about a lack of targets.

That was made even more apparent after Jones' comments on Friday. The Cowboys owner appeared to slight Cooper in his praise of new no. 1 receiver CeeDee Lamb, per Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Jones told the Star-Telegram that CeeDee Lamb will be an upgrade over Cooper as a true No. 1 receiver in the Cowboys offense.

Jones said he wasn't trying to slight Cooper, whom the team traded in March in part because his production didn’t match his $20 million practice tag.

But Jones acknowledged Cooper had his issues and that Lamb has the makings of more a complete No. 1 receiver in “production, in the huddle and off the field.”

Jones said that “Lamb will be an upgrade over Cooper” as the no. 1 wideout in the Cowboys' offense. While he said he “wasn't trying to slight Cooper”, it's obvious that he and the franchise aren't missing the Pro Bowl receiver much.

The Cowboys owner went on to acknowledge Cooper's “issues” and that Lamb is more of a true alpha receiver in terms of his “production” as well as his presence in the “huddle and off the field.”

Jones may not have been trying to slight Cooper. But that's exactly what he did. The former Cowboys star clearly outwore his welcome in Dallas, large contract or not.

Plus, Lamb, who authored the first 1000-yard season of his career, looks to be a rising star.
