Since the end of the 2017 season, there has been lingering talk around the uncertainty surrounding Seattle Seahawks All-Pro safety Earl Thomas' long-term future with the franchise. This has pushed forward the trade chatter around Thomas with the Dallas Cowboys being the most prominently mentioned.

During a recent interview with the Shan & RJ show on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM], former NFL scout and current DallasCowboys.com writer Bryan Broaddus has speculated that he believes the Cowboys are still in play to land Thomas this offseason.

The Cowboys have to look at their situation at safety and figure out is this going to be good enough? Are we able to compete for a division? To get in the playoffs? Could Earl Thomas be a guy, could he be a difference maker? … I feel like that the Earl Thomas situation still is in play. It's just a matter of where Seattle is going to be.

This is still a fluid situation in Seattle that doesn't seem to have a resolution as Thomas had made the decision to sit out much of the offseason team workouts that could bleed into training camp later this month. This could put the Seahawks in a tough spot in having an unhappy player who either wants an extension or to be moved if that is not met.

The Cowboys have remained in a spot to be in the picture as a landing spot as there is a strong notion that Thomas is highly interested in joining the team either through a trade or free agency.

The 29-year-old is in the final year of his four-year, $40 million deal that has made this situation a bit more complicated. Thomas is still playing at an elite level that could make him a high-impact this season for the Seahawks, Cowboys or any other team that he would be playing for in 2018.

Nonetheless, it is clear things can change over the next several weeks ahead of the start of next season.
