The Dallas Cowboys had a chance to wrap up the NFC East division title when they took on the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon. Instead, they got run out of Lucas Oil Stadium, falling by a score of 23-0.

It was a shockingly lifeless effort for a Cowboys team that had been on a role in recent weeks, and running back Ezekiel Elliott was embarrassed by the display, according to Grant Gordon of NFL.com:

“We can't go out there and do that. We cannot. That is not us, at all,” Elliott said after the defeat. “It's embarrassing. We've got to be better than that, way better.”

Dallas owner Jerry Jones was not enthralled with the performance either, calling the loss “very disappointing” and stating that the Cowboys “lost an edge early and just never got it back.”

Elliott rushed for 87 yards on 18 carries while catching seven passes for 41 yards in the defeat. He also lost a fumble.

Prior to the loss to the Colts, Dallas had won five straight games, with three of those wins coming against NFC East opponents (including two huge wins over the Philadelphia Eagles).

The Cowboys are now 8-6 with two games left to play. The good news is that they still control their own destiny and can lock up the division crown with a win at home over the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers next weekend.

Dallas is looking to make it back to the playoffs after a very disappointing 2017 campaign which saw the club go just 9-7 one year after winning 13 games.
