Safety HaHa Clinton-Dix's stint with the Dallas Cowboys came to an end before it ever truly got started with his recent release. With a notable void left to fill in the secondary, there is now speculation stirring about their potential interest in seven-time Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas.

COO Stephen Jones said during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan that the Cowboys will certainly do their due diligence on signing Thomas ahead of the 2020 NFL season:

“Obviously, I won't speak to any specific players, but we'll be in the market to improve our football team,” Jones continued when asked about Thomas. “We're certainly going to look at all avenues as we move forward here, and wouldn't rule anything out.”

The Cowboys have long been tied to Thomas ever since he searched out former head coach Jason Garrett to ‘come get him' while he was still with the Seattle Seahawks in 2017. Garrett may be gone, but their desire to make a splash in the secondary certainly has not waned after they were also among the teams heavily interested in former New York Jets safety Jamal Adams.

Since Seattle managed to make a splash with Adams, Dallas could look to fill their void by bringing in Thomas. While the release of Clinton-Dix helped free up $1.5 million in cap space, it remains to be seen if they are willing to pull together enough resources to meet his price tag.

Although there is still some debate regarding Thomas' potential fit, there is good reason to be optimistic that he can spark a resurgence with his hometown Cowboys given his Hall of Fame resume.
