Fans of the Dallas Cowboys have been hoping for positive development regarding the contract situation of Ezekiel Elliott. Unfortunately for them, the latest information that comes out of the debacle is far from encouraging.

Team owner Jerry Jones announced that he has accepted the reality that Elliott will miss the season opener as well as some other regular games of the season.

However, he believes that the former Ohio State Buckeye won't be able to stay out of the game for too long. Eventually, Jones think that he will be able to settle their differences, agree on a contract, and return to the team.

In Zeke's absence, rookie running back Tony Pollard will be starting. He averaged 6.8 yards per carry during his three years as a collegian at Memphis, and has impressed in the preseason. Pollard can definitely provide cover while he is away.

However, Jason Garrett knows better than anyone that he needs Elliott if the Cowboys are to make another playoff run. They will definitely miss Elliott's on-the-field production in the weeks that he will be away.

The two-time Pro Bowler was simply unstoppable last season. His 1,434 running yards on 384 carries was the highest in the entire league, and he was also a superb pass-catching option, finishing with 567 yards on 77 catches.

Cowboys fans are hoping that their man will finally be happy with a contract offer and ink a new deal with the team. After all, he is an integral part of their offensive scheme. In the meantime, they will have to make do without Elliott as they face Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants on September 8.
