The Dallas Cowboys were crushed by the Denver Broncos in Week 2. Trevor Siemian and company dominated America's Team in Denver with Jerry Jones' squad unable to close the gap in the fourth quarter.

Ezekiel Elliott took a lot of heat for the loss to the Broncos with the second-year running back criticized for his lack of effort when Chris Harris Jr. picked off a pass from Dak Prescott late in the game. Elliott stood with his hands on his hips while Harris ran in the other direction.

Owner Jerry Jones has come to the defense of his star running back saying the following about Elliott's effort in Week 2, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“I think if you look at everybody’s reaction to that interception . . . certainly on that interception, if you really look at several Dallas Cowboys players on that interception you saw what would not be the case in a closely-contested ball game,” Jones said. “I think you can point to Zeke but you really have to look at the general effort to chase that ball down by most of the people that were on the field. Dak [Prescott] now, of course, gave it everything he had to try to contain that interception but still you look at it across the board and you’ll see that you need more effort than what you see.”

Elliott had the worst game of his NFL career against the Broncos. The 22-year-old rushed for only eight yards on nine carries as he was unable to get anything going in Denver. Prescott was actually the team's leading rusher with 24 yards on three carries with Rod Smith matching Elliott's production on only two carries.

In Week 3, the Cowboys will attempt to bounce back from the ugly loss to the Broncos as they go on the road once again to face the Arizona Cardinals. Elliott and company will try to get back on track against a team with an identical record and a desperate need to right the ship after they lost their star running back David Johnson to a wrist injury in Week 1.
