According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Dallas Cowboys have signed star kicker Greg Zuerlein to a three-year deal worth $7.5 million.

Zuerlein spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Rams after they drafted him in the sixth round back in 2012.

Since then, he's had some incredible seasons. However he's also had a few years of struggle. That includes 2019, when he went just 24-for-33 (72.7%). The veteran kicker went a disappointing 5-for-11 (45.5%) from field goals between 40-49 yards.

However, Zuerlein has one of the strongest legs in the entire NFL. And that allows teams to overlook the struggles he had with accuracy in 2019.

It also helps that his last three seasons before 2019 saw Zuerlein connect on 86.4%, 95.0% and 87.1% of his field goals.

The most surprising part of this move is not that Zuerlein struggled last year though. It's that the Cowboys just signed kicker Kai Forbath not even 10 days ago.

Forbath went 10-for-10 with the Cowboys last season (11-for-11 on the year counting the one game he played with the New England Patriots).

So despite Zuerlein getting the three-year deal, it's hard to imagine the Cowboys will want to just dump Forbath.

This is likely going to turn in to a competition. And one that will be very beneficial for the Cowboys. Dallas now has two very talented kickers. One in Zuerlein, who is known more for his power leg. And one in Forbath, who is known more for his accuracy.

With Zuerlein getting a three-year deal, it's safe to assume he has an inside track on the kicking job. However, it's definitely a competition for the moment. And don't count out Forbath.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles now finds themselves without a kicker. Will they go to free agency to find their replacement for Zuerlein? Or are they going to dip into the draft? Only time will tell.
