It seems that not everyone is a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys' recent acquisition of quarterback Trey Lance. The shocking move was announced last week, sending Lance from the San Francisco 49ers to Dallas in exchange for a future pick.
Although the move was lauded by NFL legends such as OJ Simpson, recently, former NFL offensive lineman and current analyst Mark Schlereth put owner Jerry Jones on blast for the trade.
“This is why the Cowboys will never win s–t because Jerry Jones can’t help himself,” said Schlereth, per the New York Post. “I said it, it’s there.
“You think about Jerry Jones, you’re gonna go out there and you’re gonna make a trade for a guy without talking to anybody else in your organization, Steven Jones, your head coach Mike McCarthy, your quarterback.”
If it's true that Jones did not consult a single member of his offense, including most notably quarterback Dak Prescott, then one could begin to understand Mark Schlereth's plight.
Still, one must also consider that, in a vacuum, this move would seem to make a lot of sense for the Cowboys.
Trey Lance hasn't gotten a real chance to prove himself at the NFL level yet. He battled through injuries during his two years with the 49ers and ultimately was made the victim of Brock Purdy's meteoric rise a year ago.
Now, although he won't be starting in Dallas, it certainly behooved the Cowboys to bring in an insurance policy for Prescott in case of injury, or if he's having one of his rare off games, such as the one he had against the 49ers coincidentally in the playoffs last year.
Still, it doesn't appear that Schlereth will be one to sympathize.
