Trey Lance has been with the Dallas Cowboys for less than a week but is already impressing his new coaches with his knowledge of football. The third-year quarterback is getting a fresh start in Dallas and trying to revive his career. It'll take more than some brains to do that though.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy shed some light on what Lance has brought to the table and what he needs to work on.

“Very hard working,” McCarthy said, via Michael Gehlken. “We have a quarterback meeting room area. He’s pretty much kind of taken it over. The grease boards look like ‘Beautiful Mind.’ …We just need to work on the extra things, particularly in the area of footwork.”

Learning a new offense doesn’t seem to be an issue for Lance. If he gets his number called this season, the Cowboys want to know they can trust him. His small track record in the NFL doesn’t make that particularly easy but he'll have time to improve his game with Dak Prescott at the helm of the Dallas offense.

The hype surrounding Trey Lance has certainly worn off since he was drafted third overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, but the Cowboys and their fans seem excited to have him onboard. Some people think Dallas trading for him signals the end of the Dak Prescott era, but the Cowboys need to see a lot more from Lance if that is even going to be a consideration this season and beyond.
