Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons missed the start of organized team activities this offseason, which had many wondering if he was prepared to hold out for a new contract. But that's all water under the bridge now.

Parsons will be participating at OTAs for the first time on Wednesday, via Clarence E. Hill Jr. of The Fort Worth Star Telegram.

This is obviously significant news for the Cowboys, as it demonstrates that Parsons is committed to the club regardless of the fact that he does not yet have a new deal.

Plus, a contract extension for Parsons is probably not very high on Dallas' priority list right now. The superstar pass rusher just became eligible for an extension this offseason and is still under contract through 2025. Meanwhile, quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb are both entering the final years of their respective deals.

So, Prescott and Lamb will almost certainly take precedence over Parsons when it comes to the Cowboys handing out fresh contracts.

Either way, seeing Parsons at OTAs is a great sign and sends a strong message to the rest of the club.

This is a make or break year for the Cowboys

At some point, the Cowboys need to break through.

Dallas has reeled off three straight 12-win campaigns, but it has won just one playoff game throughout that span. The Cowboys have been eliminated from the Wild Card Round in two of the last three years, including this past season when they were embarrassed by the Green Bay Packers on their home turf.

Of course, this has been a running theme for Dallas for the better part of the last three decades.

Since last winning the Super Bowl in January 1996, the Cowboys have not made it to the NFC Championship Game. They have collected just four playoff wins in total during that span, and that's in spite of making the postseason 12 times over that duration.

The 2024 campaign is a make or break year for this iteration of the Cowboys. If Dallas falls short in the playoffs yet again, there may end up being some sweeping changes throughout the organization. Mike McCarthy will almost certainly be gone as head coach, and if the Cowboys are unable to reach a long-term agreement with Prescott before the season, they may ultimately let him walk in free agency next March.

There are no excuses for Dallas anymore. The Cowboys have consistently had one of the NFL's most talented rosters for several years now, and they have nothing to show for it. It looked like they were poised to make a deep playoff run last winter, but we saw how that ended.

Dallas didn't do very much this offseason, which has fans frustrated. A tight financial situation made it very difficult for the Cowboys to seriously improve their roster, but the good news is that Dallas is still very much loaded.

Regardless of what the Philadelphia Eagles did the last couple of months, the Cowboys should be the favorites to win the NFC East for the second straight year in 2024. They also have the talent to win a couple of playoff games, but we probably shouldn't hold our breath on that one.
