After a historic rookie year, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is reaching for the stars in the upcoming 2022 campaign.

Speaking to CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin, Parsons revealed that he is aiming to be the new holder of the NFL’s single-season sacks record.

“Yeah, 15's like the minimum,” Parsons said. “15's what I wanna hit. But definitely 23 is that goal, to break the record.”

Parsons orchestrated quite a debut season last year. The former Penn State standout logged 13.0 sacks in 16 regular season games played. He ended up being placed on the COVID-19/reserve list ahead of the Week 18 clash against the Philadelphia Eagles, as he finished up a mere 2.0 sacks from breaking Jevon Kearse’s record (14.5 in the 1999 campaign) for the most sacks by a rookie in a season.

Parsons sure has ways to go to break the record for the most sacks in a season, which is held by both Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt and Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end Michael Strahan (21.5).

At the least, Parsons could very well go on to soon shatter DeMarcus Ware’s record (20 in 2008) for the most sacks in a single season in Cowboys franchise history.

Overall, Parsons is slated to receive plenty of help at the line of scrimmage later this year. Dallas went all out to bolster its front seven depth over the opening months of the offseason, which included drafting former Ole Miss defensive end Sam Williams in the second round of April's NFL Draft and signing Dante Fowler Jr. to a one-year deal in free agency.
