The contract dispute between Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys continues to be drawn out, causing some to wonder if the team would rescind their franchise tag on him. While speaking about Prescott, Stephen Jones vehemently denied that the Cowboys would even consider rescinding his tag.

To prevent him from entering free agency, Dallas used their franchise tag on Prescott. With the franchise tag, Prescott is slated to make $31.4 million in 2020, which is a massive raise from his rookie deal.

Still, Prescott hopes to garner a long-term deal from the Cowboys in the near future. But unless either side is willing to budge, it doesn't appear that an extension is imminent this offseason.

Last week, the Cowboys decided to sign veteran Andy Dalton to a one-year deal for the 2020 season. While Dallas insists the move was harmless, it could be a sign that the Cowboys don't view Prescott as highly as they speak about him. In addition, signing Dalton could be a ploy for Dallas to subtly send a message to Prescott in hopes he'd budge on a contract.

Over the years, we've rarely seen teams rescind the franchise tag on a player. Most recently, Josh Norman had his franchise tag rescinded by the Carolina Panthers in 2016.

When Dalton was signed, some analysts conjured the idea that Dallas could rescind their tag to Prescott. Despite the rumors, Jones is adamant about Prescott being the starter for the team in 2020 and beyond. It remains to be seen if that holds true despite Prescott's ongoing contract talks.
