Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones does not agree with his father's suggestion to extend the regular season. Jones, the son of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, thinks that the NFL preseason is essential to helping young players grow.

“Here’s my problem: At the end of the day, it’s so important for these young players to play the game and play on a big stage and play in stadiums. I know sometimes the fans may not love it as much, and that’s Jerry’s point. Would they rather see a regular game? But that’s part of the fun of the game is watching these young guys come up and play. It’s not for everybody. I understand that. But there’s a group of fans out there who really enjoy watching these young players develop,” said Jones in an interview with NBC Sports.

His father's suggestion is that the NFL add two more games to the regular season to reach a total of 18. He thinks that eliminating two preseason games wouldn't do much harm. 2016 Offensive Rookie of the year Dak Prescott has seen limited snaps in the preseason while third-year star running back Ezekiel Elliot has not recorded one snap. The fan's of America's Team are getting antsy and want to see the Cowboys at their best sooner rather than later.

It's doubtful that the league will consider Jone's suggestion. The wear and tear on the bodies of NFL players have already received too much criticism for such a drastic change to take place anytime soon.

The Cowboys will play their preseason finale tonight against the Houston Texans before they begin to prepare for their week one matchup against the Carolina Panthers in Bank of America Stadium.
