The entire sports held its breath when Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a gruesome compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in their game against the New York Giants on Sunday. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady expressed his sympathies for the rising star, who was having an incredible start to his 2020 campaign.

The 43-year old Brady, likewise, offered words of advice on what the 27-year old Prescott can do about his recovery process.

“It’s really tough. I think you’ve got to look at the injury in stages,” Brady said. “This is the point where he just had surgery. He’s going to have to recover from the surgery before he can start to rehab. Once he starts to rehab, then he’s going to have to start preparing for the season and what his future holds. I don’t think you jump ahead too much.

Brady, who suffered season-ending knee injury in the season opener of the 2008 season, also spoke from experience and believes Prescott will have the right mindset in going through his rehab.

“In the short term after you have the injury, there’s a lot of things that go through your mind. I know that happened with my knee. But I think the one thing about great competitors, they have great discipline. They know how to get through rehabs and try to get the best outcome that you can. I know his teammates appreciate him.

Finally, Brady praised Prescott for his leadership. He also acknowledged how great of a career the injured star has had so far and wished the best for his recovery.

“Dak is shown a lot of love and support by his teammates which shows to me that they connect with him very well. He’s a great leader. He’s had a great career to this point and we’re all hoping for the very best in his recovery.”

Prescott underwent successful surgery and will likely be out for four to six months.
