Spring football is over. The transfer portal is closed. The calendar reads June. You know what that means? College football is almost here. It has now been five months since Michigan took down Washington in the national championship game in Houston, and we have made it through the hardest part of the offseason. We are well past the halfway point, and now, there's nothing but excitement to get us to the finish line. We are less than three months away from the start of the college football season, and Oregon football is ready. Ducks fans can't wait to see their team take the field for the first time.

The 2024 college football season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting seasons in a long time, and it's because of all the changes that are coming to the game in 2024. Let's start with the expanded College Football Playoff.

It's going to be interesting to see how the first year of the new 12-team College Football Playoff goes. The four-team playoff era is over, and having eight more teams make it is going to make a huge difference.

First of all, college football fans can breathe a little bit easier during the regular season. There's no worse feeling as a fan than seeing your team lose a huge game in the first weeks of the season before conference play even starts. In the four-team playoff era, that's as demoralizing as it gets. You know that one more loss is the nail in the coffin, and even with one loss (or in Florida State's case, zero), there is no guarantee that you will make it. Now, power five teams that go 10-2 should be pretty safe, and even some 9-3 teams will likely be able to make it.

The other big change is more football and a longer season. The College Football Playoff committee recently released the schedule for the 2024 playoff, and it is going to be an exciting month. Instead of three total playoff games played in the span of a week, we will get to see 11 games spread out over the span of a month. That is going to be a lot of fun.

Another huge change to the college football world this year will be with the new conferences. The Pac-12 is gone as everyone except for Oregon State and Washington State found a new home. USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington are now in the Big Ten, Cal and Stanford moved to the ACC, and Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah are in the Big 12.

The Big 12 did lose two teams, however, as Oklahoma and Texas are making the move over to the SEC.

All in all, big changes are coming to college football, and it should make for an exciting season. Things are going to look different, and not everyone is a fan of the new changes, but there is going to more football and more good matchups. That's a plus.

Oregon football is involved in conference realignment

Oregon football should once again be a contender in 2024. It will be a big year for the program as they are no longer in the Pac-12 and they will be competing in the Big Ten for the first time along with USC, UCLA and Washington. It's going to be a big change, but the Ducks are expected to be one of the best teams in the conference. They are bringing some good talent back from last year's team, and they have already picked up some great talent in the transfer portal.

Now that the spring transfer portal is closed, the Ducks have a good idea of what their roster looks like. They still have a chance to add some more players as there is a lot of uncommitted talent in the portal, but Oregon is done losing players.

Oregon football did a good job of limiting damage in the transfer portal this offseason. They picked up some good additions, and they didn’t lose much, especially in the spring window. They have also brought in some players that are going to be key for their success next season, and one of them is going to be their starting quarterback.

Transfers are going to make a big impact on this team, and there are a lot of intriguing returners to pay attention to as well. Last season, running back Jordan James was the backup for the Oregon football team, but with Bucky Irving gone, it is now his time to shine. James is protected to be the starter for the Ducks, and because of that, he could be poised for a breakout season.

As RB1, Oregon football RB Jordan James should be able to put up some really good numbers. Last season as a backup, James had 107 carries for 759 yards and 11 touchdowns. That was a very solid year, and Oregon fans know what he is capable of. When the 2024 season gets going, the rest of the country is going to learn a lot about James as well.

Jordan James is entering his junior year as he also got some solid playing time as a freshman in 2022. He carried the ball 46 times for 189 yards and five touchdowns that year. He had a role as a freshman, and he has only gotten better since then.

What makes Jordan James such an exciting player heading into the season is seeing what he was able to do during the offseason after his freshman season. He took a major leap last year, and he still hasn't even been the starting RB for the Oregon football team yet. Now, he is getting another offseason under his belt, and he is likely going to take another big jump. If he rushed for 759 yards and 11 touchdowns as a backup, just imagine what he is going to be able to do with starting RB carries. He is going to have a big year.

There is a lot to be excited about heading into this season if you're an Oregon football fan, and Jordan James is certainly one of those things. He is going to be a fun player to watch.
