Sacramento Kings head coach Dave Joerger stood up for his superstar DeMarcus Cousins, wishing the team and media could move on from a recent spat between the All-Star center and Sacramento Bee reporter Andy Furillo.

Cousins had previously called out Furillo in a profanity-laced tirade for talking about his brother, Jaleel, in his column about the night Cousins and teammate Matt Barnes were part of an alleged assault of a couple in a New York City nightclub. The column made reference to prior legal trouble Cousins and his brother were involved in while attempting to get in the DJ booth at a Tampa nightclub earlier in the year.

The newspaper published footage of Cousins' verbal threats toward the longtime reporter and his selective antics of choosing which media he'd address for quotes and which he wouldn't. The Bee also had supporting evidence from other reporters saying this was usual behavior from the Kentucky product, but hadn't gone as far as it did on Monday.

“This guy is the face of our franchise,” Joerger told the Associated Press after the Kings' 99-79 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. “He's done and said some things that he wishes he could do over. He has improved.”

“I'm not justifying anything that he's done. What he did was excessive. But enough is enough.”

While these are important words, Cousins had yet to speak of the matter and likely won't until the NBA gives a ruling on the issue. Both verbal threats and media control are issues the league takes very seriously and the Kings big man is likely to be sanctioned within the next couple of days.
