Since the start of the season, Toronto Raptors big man Pascal Siakam has turned some heads with his improved play. His rebounding and scoring has been noticed by many, as he excels on those two facets of his game. However, when it comes to his speed, DeMar DeRozan remains sceptical about it.

The three-time All-Star trolled his teammate recently during an interview, where he made it known that he is not sold about the idea of 23-year-old Cameroonian being fast. He explained the difference of it to running hard and said that he sees him as the latter. DeRozan also compared him to former Raptor Amir Johnson, and mentioned that he wants to know more about why Siakam was called “Usain Bolt” in high school.

DeRozan may not completely agree that he is fast, but so far this season, Siakam is playing better than he did last year with improved numbers across the board of 7.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists. That said, he has earned the trust of head coach Dwane Casey, resulting in more playing time for him now, and becoming a fixture in the team’s rotation.

Siakam is by no means slow on the court and DeRozan’s comments may be more of a challenge to him to further work on his speed, as he knows it will only make him a better all-around player. Should he continue to develop his game, not only will he be able to help the Raptors in their quest to win the Eastern Conference, but Siakam could also set his professional career up for more success.
