The Denver Broncos were building in the right direction to become a playoff team. They have a bunch of playmakers on defense and coming into the 2020 NFL draft it was clear there was going to be a premium on improving the offense.

After making ten selections in the draft, it's time to reevaluate if this is now a playoff team.

Draft Picks

The Broncos made a splash with their first-round selection by bringing in wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, who is a speedster that can create separation at the line of scrimmage. CeeDee Lamb was still on the board and may have been the better selection for the Broncos in this spot, but you can't really go wrong with Jeudy.

The Broncos went back to wide receiver in round two by bringing in KJ Hamler, who was a do-it-all playmaker for the Penn State Nittany Lions. He is another guy who should make an impact in year one, even if it's not as big as Jeudy.

The Broncos also needed cornerback help, getting that in the third round by selecting Michael Ojumedia. Broncos coach Vic Fangio had nothing but praise for Ojumedia, who was strong with the Iowa Hawkeyes:

“Well the first thing I liked when we were watching him was just the way he played,” Head Coach Vic Fangio said via the Broncos team website. “He played well. He showed good instincts, had a good feel for the game. He runs well. He's got some length, a good tackler. I just liked the way he played the game in all of the areas of his job. We were happy to get him there too.”

In terms of helping right away, the other player who could make a big impact is tight end Albert Okwuegbunam, who played his college football with Drew Lock at Missouri.

The Broncos also drafted Lloyd Cushenberry, McTelvin Agim, Justin Strnad, Netane Muti, Tyrie Cleveland, and Derrek Tuszka.

Some of those late-round picks have chances to be steals, but in terms of helping them make the playoffs this year, they probably won't play a huge role.

So is this a playoff team?

Playing in the AFC West and going against the Kansas City Chiefs, having a good offense is important. It doesn't matter how good a defense is, the Chiefs are still going to find a way to score points.

Drew Lock has all kinds of playmakers that he will be able to air it out to. Courtland Sutton, Jeudy, Hamler, and even tight end Okwuegbunam should all be impact players this year. As long as Lock continues his strong play from his rookie season, this is going to be a playoff team.

Don't be shocked if the Broncos are sitting near the top of the AFC West during the stretch run of the season.
