The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers, two of the oldest and most intense rivals in all of baseball, are both among the best teams in the league. After enjoying a season where they were nearly even in terms of dominance, the scales are tipping in the Dodgers' favor.
Los Angeles made a huge splash by signing Freddie Freeman. They add the 2020 MVP and reigning World Series champion to a team with stars everywhere. It's no secret that, so long as their health holds up, they are going to be one of the very best teams next season.
Logan Webb, the Giants' ace pitcher, couldn't help but express his frustration over the Dodgers landing the All-Star slugger.
While the Dodgers add a star hitter, the Giants lose one in midseason acquisition Kris Bryant, who signed with the division-rival Colorado Rockies. They also saw franchise icon Buster Posey retire and star pitcher Kevin Gausman leave in free agency. After winning an MLB-leading 107 wins, it feels like the Giants are due for regression.
Still, the Giants should ve a very good team again with a stacked pitching rotation consisting of Webb, Anthony DeSclafani and new acquisition Carlos Rodon. They also boast a strong hitting core led by shortstop Brandon Crawford, first baseman Brandon Belt and newly-signed outfielder/former Dodger Joc Pederson. Even if they don't post a triple-digit number in the win column, they should be very good.
Although Freeman makes the Dodgers a juggernaut, the Giants have the pitching depth to hold them and enough hitting to compete with them.
