The Los Angeles Dodgers enjoyed a tremendous season in 2021. They finished with the second best record in MLB despite Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger both struggling. One can only imagine how good they may have been had both players been at peak form.

Well, in 2022 we don’t have to imagine anymore in regards to Mookie Betts. After a slow start to the season, Betts had an amazing month of May. In fact, it was one of the best individual months in the storied Dodgers history.

Mookie Betts smashed 12 home runs during the month which tied Hall of Famer Roy Campanella for most May home runs in Dodgers history, per baseball reference

Betts is now near the MLB leaders in home runs and is hitting just under .300 on the season. The outfielder previously dealt with injuries which was likely the reason for his underperformance in 2021. But he seems to be fully healthy and ready to roll in 2022.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts commented on Mookie Betts’s historic month

“I think even in ‘20 there were snippets where he was playing good baseball,” Roberts said. “But over the last 30 days, it’s as good as anybody on the planet. Yeah, it’s as good as I’ve seen him. He’s scoring runs at a crazy clip. He’s on base. He’s slugging at a ridiculous clip, too. And he’s playing Gold Glove defense, too. He’s making the game look a lot easier than it is.”

Betts was an MVP candidate in 2020 for the Dodgers and won the award in 2018 during his time in Boston with the Red Sox. There is no question that he is one of the best players in baseball when healthy.

Mookie Betts and the Dodgers will look to keep rolling in June.
