Typically, when a hitter is sent out to pitch in a game, one can take a look at the scoreboard and see a blowout score. But Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner had a unique experience in his team's series finale against the Colorado Rockies.

Down by only a 5-0 score in the top of the ninth inning, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts elected not to call to the bullpen for his next pitcher but rather to Turner.

Even with a grand opportunity to put the game away, the Rockies squandered a chance to score even a single run against a hitter making his first career appearance on the mound.

Trevor Story and C.J. Cron each recorded singles off Turner, but the next three Rockies batters failed to even reach base against the two-time All-Star.

Turner was certainly wise in his pitch selection, as he did not throw a single fastball to any Rockies batter during his inning of work. The Dodgers star infielder resorted to throwing sliders and changeups that mostly hit in the 72-76 mph range.

Fortunately for the Rockies, they did not blow the lead later in the bottom of the ninth inning as they came away with a 5-0 victory to clinch a surprise series win.

If the Dodgers are ever in need again of a pitcher to finish off blowout games, Turner and his career 0.00 ERA may be that player to go to down the road.

In the big picture, Los Angeles now heads into the stretch run of the season, where the reigning World Series winners will aim to catch the San Francisco Giants at the top of the NL West standings. The two teams will face off in a mere one series in September, which will come later this week in what will be a duel to watch.
