Clayton Kershaw turned back the clock during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 7-0 early afternoon win over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.

Kershaw was simply electric against a Cubs lineup that entered the day ranking fifth in batting average (.240) in the National League this season.

The three-time NL Cy Young Award winner logged 7.0 innings of work, allowed five hits, and did not allow a single earned run. While the Dodgers pitcher did not have his way in fooling Cubs hitters due to the mere eight total swings and misses recorded, his keen slider that reached in the mid-80 mph generated multiple crucial outs over the course of the contest.

In speaking after the game, Kershaw was asked about just what went well for him against the NL Central club, where he simply gave credit to his defense behind him and the multitude of key outs that it recorded for him.

“Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good,” Kershaw said.

Kershaw sure had plenty of help from his All-Star-filled defense, which included first baseman Freddie Freeman helping to record a much-needed out on Cubs shortstop Nico Hoerner in the second inning.

Kershaw now boasts a 1.80 ERA through five starts this season. He has also allowed more than one earned run in only one of these appearances, which came when the Atlanta Braves tallied for four earned runs off of him on April 18.

The eight-time All-Star sure continues to prove that he still has plenty left in the tank at this stage in his career.
