Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been on the mend over the last few weeks with a nagging shoulder injury that has forced him to miss the last five straight games.

However, Tannehill has continued to make progress in his recovery from the injury over the last several days that has brought forth much optimism about his return to the field in the near future. According to Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post, head coach Adam Gase voiced on Monday that the 30-year-old has ramped up his throwing program.

Tannehill has been making his way back from a capsule injury that he suffered after being hit by Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap back in Week 5. In the weeks that have followed that, he has struggled to make an significant progress in being able to get back on the field as he has had persistent pain in the shoulder that has prevented him from getting back onto the practice field altogether.

In his absence, the team has leaned on journeyman quarterback Brock Osweiler to fill in under center with the team holding a 2-3 record over the last five games. Osweiler has had his fair share of ups and downs in place of Tannehill as he has thrown for 1,247 yards with six touchdowns to four interceptions.

Osweiler has struggled over the last three games throwing zero touchdown passes and two interceptions with just 6.1 yards per attempt over that stretch. He has provided some sense of stability that has kept their offense afloat while Tannehill is on the mend.

Ultimately, the Dolphins are dealing with a situation that the team will have to continue to monitor closely as Tannehill works his way back from the injury. In the meantime, Osweiler will remain the spot starter with the team's next matchup in Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts.
