The Miami Dolphins certainly don't seem to be planning on winning many games in 2019. The consensus in all the reporting we've heard thus far is that the Dolphins plan on tanking away the season.  But don't tell that to new head coach Brian Flores.

Speaking at the owners' meetings this morning, Flores denied the team was going to intentionally tank, according to Omar Kelly of The South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

“The term tanking is disrespectful to the game. I don't like that term. Don't like when people use it. Football is the one thing that leveled the playing field for me as a person. To use that term stirs something up inside me,” Flores said.

The moves the Dolphins are making tend to point the other way. The team recently signed Ryan Fitzpatrick, presumably to be their starting quarterback next year. Fitzpatrick is capable of catching fire for a couple of games here and there, but you aren't going to win too many games with him as a 16-game starter.

Adam Gase was reportedly fired by the team because of a difference in how to lead the team moving forward. Gase wanted to go all-in on winning now, while ownership wanted a complete rebuild. When Gase didn't agree, management hired Flores away from the Patriots to be the new head coach.

Flores was firm in his denials, but nobody really seems to be buying it. The Dolphins pick 13th in next month's draft, and as such will likely be picking after the top few quarterbacks are already off the board.

All indications are that they have their sights set on getting a top draft pick for 2020, and taking a signal-caller then.

We should know with more certainty once the draft is over.
