Running back Leonard Fournette has become the latest notable addition to hit the market after being waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Perhaps there could be a situation where he does not have to leave the state of Florida by signing with the Miami Dolphins. According to Josh Tolentino of The Athletic, head coach Brian Flores says the Dolphins will be among those doing their due diligence on Fournette's potential fit:

“Like all players, we'll see if it's a good fit for us. If we do, we'll make a move.”

Now that Fournette managed to clear waivers, the Dolphins will be free to negotiate a new deal with him for the 2020 NFL season. Of curse, it remains to be seen just how much competition they will have from the other teams looking to add a boost to their backfield.

The Dolphins already signed former Pro Bowl running back Jordan Howard to anchor this group in the offseason. Meanwhile, running back Kalen Ballage was slated to build on his role as the complementary option. Regardless, it is safe to say that Fournette would immediately emerge as an integral piece of their offense for the 2020 campaign.

The Dolphins already secured a surplus of talent under center by pairing Ryan Fitzpatrick with
Tua Tagovailoa. Fournette would provide a proven option to help carry the run game while they continue to develop Tagovailoa. A trial run this season at the right price could help solidify any thoughts Flores may have of keeping him around for the long haul.
