A quarter of the 2020 NFL season has already passed, but there are still no signs of Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa making an appearance on the gridiron.

The Dolphins announced Tuesday morning that veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will continue to be the team's starter in their Week 5 encounter against the San Francisco 49ers. Dolphins head coach Brian Flores had given rather lukewarm support to Fitzpatrick on Monday, but the coaching staff clearly still feels he's the best option over the rookie.

The 16-year veteran started in the Dolphins' first four games. He racked up 191 yards and completed 20-of-30 passes with three recorded interceptions in their 21-11 Week 1 loss against the New England Patriots.

Fitzpatrick bounced back in their following game against the Buffalo Bills, tallying a total of 328 passing yards with two touchdowns while completing 31 of his 47 attempts. His efforts went down the drain, though, as his team eventually suffered a 31-28 heart-stopping loss.

The Harvard product had an efficient outing in a Week 3 encounter against the Jacksonville Jaguars in which he chalked up 160 passing yards on an 18-of-20 passing clip coupled with passing and rushing touchdowns en route to a 31-13 victory.

Fitzpatrick faced another tough test in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks. While he recorded 315 yards through the air while completing 29 out of 45 pass attempts, he didn't throw a single touchdown and tossed two picks. He did rush for another score, but the Dolphins took a 31-23 loss to fall to 1-3 on the season.

Dolphins fans will have to wait longer to see their rookie gunslinger in action. In the meantime, the veteran journeyman will once again be at the team's forefront as they aim to steal their second win of the season against an undermanned 49ers squad in Week 5 proceedings.
