The Miami Dolphins have reportedly requested permission to interview current New England Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores for their vacant head coaching position.

Miami chose to fire former head coach Adam Gase on Monday after three seasons with the team.

Gase finished 23-25 during his tenure with the Dolphins, but the majority of the success came in his first year when he led Miami to the AFC Wild Card round before losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Now, with the head coaching role officially available, the Dolphins front office will turn its attention to finding the right replacement.

And one name on the team's list is Flores, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Flores is also expected to get interviews with both the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos, so the Dolphins aren't the only ones in the mix here.

He has been with the Patriots since 2004, where he joined the franchise as a scouting assistant. And after serving as a position coach for several years, he took over the defensive coordinator role this season after Matt Patricia left to become the head coach of the Detroit Lions.

Everyone knows the value that comes along with being a member of the Bill Belichick coaching tree, so Flores and Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels should be top targets for several franchises around the league.

The Dolphins are set for a crucial offseason as they hope to turn things around, especially considering that the New York Jets are also looking to revamp their organization after firing former head coach Todd Bowles.
