The Miami Dolphins own the fifth overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, and the general consensus is that they will be taking a quarterback at that spot.

Could it be Oregon's Justin Herbert?

According to Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald, the Dolphins have an “increasingly positive view” of Herbert and could even favor him over Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa.

That was something that seemed unthinkable before the season started, but Tagovailoa's recent health concerns have caused his stock to drop slightly, and Dolphins owner Stephen Ross even acknowledged that he is worried about Tagovailoa going forward:

“I’ve been down there to see him. Tua is a great player. I just worry about his health,” Ross said. “The coaches really make the decisions on the draft choices. We have to look at what his health is and everything else and see what the alternatives are.”

So it's not necessarily that Miami thinks Herbert is more talented than Tagovailoa, but that the Dolphins are factoring durability into the equation, which is a wise thought process.

Salguero notes that the Dolphins love Herbert's size (6-foot-6, 237 pounds), arm talent and mobility.

Herbert is coming off of a senior campaign in which he threw for 3,471 yards, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 66.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 156.8.

Not exactly Tagovailoa numbers, but solid, nonetheless, and at least Miami knows that Herbert does not have a checkered injury history.

The Dolphins went 5-11 this past season, employing both Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen under center at different points.
