The Miami Dolphins named Mike McDaniel their new head coach on Sunday. The former San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator spoke to Tua Tagovailoa to begin their professional relationship after the hire was finalized.

McDaniel had some strong words and promises for the young quarterback in their meeting on a video call. The Dolphins tweeted a clip of their conversation Tuesday morning.

“One thing I know about you is you have the ambition to be great. My job is to coach you, to get all that greatness out of you,” the new Dolphins coach said. “This is an awesome day for me…I'm going to make sure when you look back at this day you’re gonna be like, ‘damn that was one of the best days of my career, too.’”

McDaniel continued his optimism with even more assurance for a great season. “It is an unbelievable opportunity for me that I do not plan on wasting in the slightest, I promise you that.  I'm all in, you're going to get the best out of me that you can possibly get.”

Tagovailoa proved to be a great leader for the Dolphins this season. Miami began the season 1-7 and turned the season around with a final regular-season record of 9-8.

Meanwhile, McDaniel was a key component to the 49ers' success this season as their offensive coordinator. San Francisco's playoff run came to an end when they were defeated by the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Conference Championship.
