The Miami Dolphins have agreed to a four-year, $30 million contract with incoming rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, according to Field Yates of ESPN. The deal also contains a fifth-year team option.

The Dolphins selected Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick of the NFL Draft late last month.

There appeared to be some genuine questions about whether or not Miami would actually take Tagovailoa, but its need under center was too glaring for the club to pass up the talented University of Alabama signal-caller.

Tagovailoa arrived at Alabama in 2017 and served most of the year in a backup role, throwing for 636 yards, 11 touchdowns and a couple of interceptions. However, during the National Championship Game that year, Tagovailoa replaced Jalen Hurts in the second half and ended up leading the Crimson Tide to a title.

The following year, Tagovailoa became Alabama's full-time starter, finishing with 3,966 yards, 43 touchdowns and six picks while completing 69 percent of his throws and posting a passer rating of 199.4.

Then, this past season, Tagovailoa was limited to just nine games due to ankle surgery and a dislocated hip. During the time he was on the field, he was brilliant, throwing for 2,840 yards, 33 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 71.4 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 206.9.

Still, due to Tagovailoa's checkered injury history, there was some concern surrounding the Hawaii native entering the draft, so much so that some felt Oregon's Justin Herbert would get taken before him.

But ultimately, Tagovailoa went to the Dolphins at No. 5 and, health permitting, will almost certainly get a chance to start all 16 games for the squad in 2020.
