E3 2022 cancelled confirmed. There will be neither an onsite or digital E3 event this year, as confirmed by Razer PR Lead Will Powers.

UPDATE: Albeit our earlier skepticism, it seems that this is, in fact, real, and that this isn't an elaborate April Fools' Joke. As gameindustry.biz independently confirmed with a representative from the ESA, E3 will be missing this year, but also reports that the ESA is planning to make a comeback with a physical convention in LA in the Summer of 2023.

Let's get this out of the way first: this should be treated as a developing story, especially since it's April 1st already in many parts of the world. We're not yet taking away the possibility that this is just an elaborate April Fools' Prank.

E3 2022 has reportedly been cancelled by Will Powers, PR Lead for Razer. Other sources are yet to confirm this, and the E3 organizers have yet to make an official announcement about this.

Meanwhile, The Game Awards executive producer and presenter Geoff Keighley also tweeted out a winking emoji, which may or may not relate to this surprise about this year's E3. Again, take everything you hear or read today with a grain of salt.

While the announcement that E3 2022 is cancelled for this year may turn out to be an elaborate hoax, it's not very hard to believe. After all, E3 has been showing signs of aging over the past years, with different video game companies opting to have their own digital events instead. Indeed, the pandemic has hit E3 hard, as its main appeal came in the hands-on experience attendees had with new games, consoles, and technology. Without the on-site presence, E3 feels wholly different. Now, with E3 2022 reportedly cancelled this year, it's very likely that this is also an end of an era – E3 might never even return again.
