E3 is not dead yet. The E3 2023 Comeback in Los Angeles will be coming next year in collaboration with PAX (Penny Arcade Expo).

PAX and E3 cross paths as the organizers of PAX are partnering with the organizers of E3 to make E3 2023 happen next year in Los Angeles, California. The Entertainment Software Association will be partnering with ReedPop, the organizers of PAX and New York Comic Con, to facilitate the event next year. However, an exact date has not yet been announced, although we could probably expect E3 2023 to happen around this time of the year – in June. ESA hopes that this event will be momentous and a return to form to what E3 has been before the pandemic made publishers realize that they can actually hold their own online live streams to announce their games instead of relying too much on E3.

In spite of this major announcement, the ESA didn't mention when the event will be nor which publishers would be presenting at the event. It's completely possible that the ESA has not yet started selling booth slots for the event, or it's also possible that major publishers have already decided to pass on this event. After all, the likes of Nintendo with its Directs, Sony with its State of Plays, and Microsoft with its Bethesda Showcases, don't really need E3 anymore to reach a wide audience.

During E3's absence in the past year, Geoff Keighley and The Game Awards have mostly filled the vacuum that E3 used to occupy. With E3 2023 confirmed to be coming back next year, it'll be interesting to see where this war between E3 and TGA would take us. Which convention would publishers actually favor, we wonder? But more importantly, which one of the two would the fans pay patronage to? We'll know next year for sure.
